If you follow us on Twitter or like us on Facebook (you should be doing both), you’ve likely seen mention of the Kickstarter campaign we’re getting ready to launch. We plan to take it live in the next two weeks.
In our last post, we talked about the funding we’ve gotten so far and some of the other funding we’re looking to secure. Kickstarter is one of those vehicles.
If you’re not familiar with Kickstarter, it’s a crowdsource fundraising platform that allows entrepreneurs, artists, innovators, inventors and others to leverage the power of social media in an effort to secure funding.
And what exactly does that mean? Well, Kickstarter is a website where people who are looking for money for a creative project (like say a math game that’s fun, educational and produces results) can ask people online to help fund it by giving a donation. It’s as easy as buying something using PayPal or Amazon–and that’s because Kickstarter actually processes payments through Amazon. Then social media users–which includes anyone with a Facebook, Twitter, Bebo, MySpace, the list goes on account–tell people they know to give and those people give and tell people they know to give and it goes on that way until the project gets funded.
The other thing about Kickstarter is also that the project only gets funded if it meets a goal amount set before the campaign launches. It’s basically an all or nothing kind of deal. We’re not too concerned about hitting our funding goal–because
- we’ve set one that we know is realistic. We’ve got a statistics PhD holder and a rocket scientist working on this, so we know a little bit about making sure the numbers actually work.
- we have a phenomenal–and when it comes to math education–life-changing product.
- we fully understand the power and reach of social media.
So why are we telling you about this Kickstarter campaign before it’s even launched? Because things don’t happen in a bubble–and we want to keep you in the loop not only as far as what we’ve got, but as far as what we’ve got coming.
Check back here for more on what we plan to do with the money we plan to raise and for continued developments on “Spirit Lake: The Game” and all things 7 Generation Games–and don’t worry, we’ll be sure to let you know once our Kickstarter campaign is up and running.
