Ten minute lesson: Fractions


Fractions, that’s usually a math concept that students either love or hate. From what I’ve observed while in the classroom, and from personal experience, that love or hate stems from whether students understand the concept or not. Here is a ten minute lesson that can be extra helpful for students starting to learn about fractions.

1. Start off by having students watch the video below.

2. Give students a real-life example of a fraction. It can be as simple two students from the class splitting 1 whole chocolate bar.

3. Build upon and refer back to the real-life example presented to the class when going over the PowerPoint Presentation and PDF below.

4. To gauge understanding, have students write down a different real-life example where fractions would be used.
